Level of Lucidity (1-10): 0 | Dream Signs:  | Mood:

I had a dream last night... I wasn't lucid, but it was so strange I had to write it down.

I was walking down a New York City street, and came to a corner by the entrance to a park.  Across the street, were Haitian drummers and performers about to give a demonstration.  I stopped on the curb across from them to watch.  I became aware of something pulling my attention.  The leader had a hand held microphone and was mumbling something.  He drew my attention toward him, although my body stayed where it was.

Suddenly, I was not of my body anymore.  I was hanging inside it, like clothes on a hanger - my toes barely touched the street as my body shell on the outside became an old man, very bent at the knees.  I was posessed by a loa (a god in the Haitian pantheon - I thought he was Gedde, a skeleton man with a bowler hat and a long cigar, but I couldn't find that loa when I googled it, so my memory of the right name might be flawed.  It could have been Legba, the keeper of the door to the supernatural world.)

My possessed old man body strutted into the street, but when it spoke it was me.  I mean, my will.  My words.  I was telling everyone that I was possessed, and that very soon I would let the god speak.  My voice didn't sound like me at all, but it spoke my thoughts.  I was in control.  Then, like you brush the clothes hanging on the rod in your closet to one side to make room, my self was brushed aside and the god took over.

I awoke to the loud voice of someone heatedly upset on the street outside my apartment.  It was 4am.

What a strange dream.  I like mythology, but I am an atheist and actually anti-religion.  I never studied Voodun, but I had a girlfriend who dragged me to a few ceremonies years ago and though I know nothing about that particular belief system, I still know more than you.  I had no fear in this dream, only the strange feeling of hanging inside a body.

I wish I had interesting dreams more often.
