i watched a NOVA episode recently about dreams that brought up an interesting point. the results of a study showed that the longer people stayed in REM sleep the darker their dreams were. i saw evidence of this myself when the same dream with the same characters throughout took on two very different tones entirely.
first the dream was warm and friendly. i was staying with an aunt and uncle who were very welcoming. the dream later turned nasty and hostile when i offered to help my pregnant aunt up the stairs she got angry and vomited. i soon found that i was not welcome anymore. i called a friend to come and get me. next i was at an airfield with my cousins remarking on how impressive the fighter jets were. we went up in my cousins prop plane and during a banking maneuver my younger cousin fell out the side of the aircraft and plunged 200 feet below. when we landed my now only living and very distraught cousin started to taxi the plane toward a large fuel
tank. i jumped out just in time but knew that i had to go to my family and tell them
what happened. all i remember from this part was my grandma trying to kill me
with a piece of glass. the loner i stayed in REM the worse my dream became.
