I woke from a two-hour nap, the day's second sleep, with the clear image of a shiny, copper tympani. And I was hearing the soft thunder-like roll of that drum as it is sometimes played.

There was no sign of anyone playing the drum nor of its setting. It just appeared very clearly against a solid black background.
