The night's second, 3-hour sleep segment contained at least one and possibly two dreams. The vivid dream I had when waking hinted at an earlier, recent dream. Whether that "hint" was real or fictional, I honestly can't say.
The setting of this dream was based in a residential neighborhood I used to be very familiar with, in a town in which I used to live. I was witness to the brutal beating of one young guy at the hands of another, while two others were either helping with the beating or trying to slow it down. The only thing clear about the actions of the other two in this group of four is that they were trying to get both the victim and the beater moved out of public view.
There was the strongest sense of "remembering", a sense that I had seen these four guys earlier, in another dream, and that I'd already witnessed an earlier stage of this beating.
I was standing across the street watching this sidewalk beating taking place. There were a few other folks standing near me, watching the scene in horror. When I asked if any of them wanted to do anything to stop it, they first looked away then walked away.
By this time the group of four guys across the street was beginning to move away, too, though the beating was still in progress.
I called 911 on my cellphone to report the incident while trying to follow the four from a distance on my side of the street. The cop who answered the phone told me he was the only one "on duty" and said it would be "some time" before he could follow up on my report.
The group I was following turned a corner and disappeared from sight while I was on the phone with 911.
I woke frustrated.
